Anesthetic Drugs Window

The Anesthetic Drugs window allows you to manage the drugs available for use in the Case Management module and to define default behavior.

Field Description
Drug

A text field that indicates the drug.

The field uses intelliSense to display matching drugs, or the ellipsis is used to display the Drug Definition List window and select a drug.
Short Name

A text field indicates how the drug is displayed in the module.

Tip: By default, this is the same as displayed in Drug.

Default Unit

A drop-down list that indicates the default unit for this drug.
Default Delivery A drop-down list that indicates the default delivery method for this drug.
Default Gauge A drop-down list that indicates the default gauge for this drug.
Waste Entry

A drop-down list that indicates if waste for this drug should be tracked and whether it requires approval:

  • No
  • Yes
  • Yes with Approval

Note: This field is only enabled if Default Unit is not set to a percentage type.

Tip: While requiring approval of waste is managed at the drug level, the ability to approve drug waste is managed at the user level.

Add by default A check box that, when selected, indicates that this drug should be added, by default, to all surgeries.
Is a percentage mixture with another Anesthetic Drug

A check box that, when selected, indicates that this drug is mixed with another drug.

Note: This field is enabled when the Default Unit is set to a percentage type, and defaults to selected.

Other Drug

A drop-down list that indicates a secondary drug used with this drug.

Note: This field is enabled if the Is a percentage mixture of another drug check box is selected.

Tip: Multiple drugs can have the same entry for Other Drug but the primary drug specified in the Drug field can only have a single entry.

Example: Nitrous Oxide can be mixed with Oxygen, and Helium can be mixed with Oxygen, so Nitrous Oxide and Helium should both be set up as anesthetic drugs, using Oxygen as the secondary drug.

Task Procedure
Add Anesthetic Drugs
  1. Click the Clear Data () icon.
  2. Complete the fields as necessary and click the Add a new Record () icon.
Specify Drug Maximums
  1. Select a listed entry and click the Anesthetic Drug Maximums () icon to display the Anesthetic Drug Maximums window.
  2. Make any necessary changes and close the window.
Edit Anesthetic Drugs
  1. Select a listed entry.
  2. Make any necessary changes and click the Modify Record ()
Delete Anesthetic Drugs
  1. Select a listed entry and click the Delete Record () icon.
  2. When prompted, click Yes to confirm the deletion.
Preview/Print Report
  1. (Optional) To preview the Anesthetic Drugs report, click the Preview Report () icon.
  2. To print the Anesthetic Drugs report, click the Print Report () icon.

    3. Note: The Anesthetic Drugs report uses the anesdrug.rpt file.

Reorder Drugs
  1. Select a listed entry.
  2. Click the Up and Down buttons to move the selected entry within the list.

Anesthetic Drug Maximums Window

(Maintenance > Case Management > Anesthetic Drugs > Anesthetic Drug Maximums icon)

The Anesthetic Drug Maximums window allows you to manage anesthetic drug maximum values. It displays when you open the Anesthetic Drugs window and click the Anesthetic Drug Maximums () icon.

Drug maximums are optional and can be configured to indicate and warn users when drugs are approaching (or have approached) their maximum recommended dosages.

These maximums are based on drug/unit combinations, so if a drug can be delivered via different units, the maximums can also be different. Maximums are also based on age ranges.

Field Description
Drug

A disabled field that indicates the drug that these limits apply to.
Unit

A drop-down list that indicates the unit for the selected drug.
Age from / Age to Fields that indicate the age range that this record applies to.
Max total dosage (per kg of patient weight) __ <Unit>

A text field that indicates the maximum cumulative dose of this drug per kg of patient weight that can be administered during the surgery.

Note: This field is disabled for units set to percentages or continued flow.

__ % of Max (Orange indicator) / __ % of Max (Red indicator and warning message)

For units entered as percentages, these fields indicate the percentage that should trigger each warning level.

For other units, these fields indicate the percentage of the Max total dosage (per kg of patient weight) that should trigger each warning level.

Note: These fields are disabled for units that are set as continued flow (unless the unit is a percentage).

Warn when single dose exceeds __ <Unit>

This field indicates the maximum single dose that can be administered to a patient during the surgery.

Important: Unlike the Max total dosage (per kg of patient weight) field, this single dose is not based on patient weight and will trigger if a total single dose exceeds this value.

Note: This field is disabled for units that are set as percentages.

Task Procedure

  1. Click the Clear Data () icon.
  2. Complete the fields as necessary and click the Add a new Record () icon.
Edit Anesthetic Drug Maximums
  1. Select a listed entry.
  2. Make any necessary changes and click the Modify Record () icon.
Delete Anesthetic Drug Maximums
  1. Select a listed entry and click the Delete Record () icon.
  2. When prompted, click Yes to confirm the deletion.
